The use of an open plan layout at the ground floor for public spaces minimises unusable circulation space. Glazing, predominately to the south, plus glazing to the east and west maximises solar gains whilst reducing losses to the north. With high thermal standards, triple glazed windows and an extremely air tight external envelope this new home requires no central heating. All heating is provided by a centrally located wood burning stove. Heat generated by the stove is evenly distributed throughout the house via a whole house ventilation system with heat recovery.
